Bixbite - Red Beryl or Red Emerald?

Beryl is the mineral that emerald is. However, there are other important gemstones that are also beryl, namely aquamarine, morganite, heliodore and bixbite. If a gemstone that is beryl does not fall into one of the four named gemstones, then they are usually referred to by their color, such as "green beryl."

Bixbite, which is only found in a single location in the Wah-Wah Mountains in Utah, is much rarer than emeralds. The trace element that gives it its red color is magnesium. Otherwise, it is identical to emerald - the reason more and more jewelers and gemologists are calling it red emerald and we could not agree more.

A red emerald in a size exceeding one carat is so rare as to be considered museum quality. If emeralds are rarer than diamonds, then red emeralds are rarer than pink diamonds.

Red emeralds are enhanced the same as emeralds are. Any red emerald we supply will have the same lifetime guarantee as accompanies our fine emeralds.
